Movie News for Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen

Prince of Persia: Sands of Time has just been pushed back another year until 2010. The main character Dastan is played by Jake Gyllenhaal who will also star with Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton, Alfred Molina and Ben Kingsley.

The original date of June 19, 2009 would have originally competed with Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen but has now been pushed back until May 28, 2010. This date will now compete with Shrek Goes Fourth if everything stays on this schedule.

There have been many recent updates in the upcoming movie scene. Here’s a few quick headlines:

  • The official Transformers website have updated their page to include the new logo for the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. See it at http://www.transformersmovie.com/.

  • MTV has decided to do a remake of the 1975 classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show. As with most MTV productions, this could be a huge flop.

  • New Line Cinema has announced that they will begin production on Hairspray 2. There have been no confirmed cast members yet. This movie is expected to be released in 2010.

  • There will be a third installment in the Harold and Kumar series. No details released yet.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Michael Bay spoke the following thoughts:

When we were writing the script, I said to the writers, “I hate sequels that try to make it to the third movie. Pretend like we’re never having a third movie, so let’s go for broke on the second one. I hate those cliffhangers! Let’s just make this movie stand on its own.” I really feel this movie is not a forced sequel. I think the script is really good, and I think it’s got a lot of new stuff in it. There are a lot of rumors out there, but we’ve released a lot of fake stuff. We’ve done a really good job of keeping things secret.

This sounds like some good news for the next Transformers film, Revenge of the Fallen. It’s great to hear they’re working hard to not fall down the awful path that most sequels take. Along with the Transformers update, Michael Bay goes on to talk about his two other films, Friday the 13th and Ouija. Read the interview at EW.com.

Here’s a clip of the filming of Transformers 2. This video is an overhead look of a very sporty car maneuver. It’s a great look to see how a scene like this is filmed by the vehicle following the car. Enjoy.

The future holds a variety of sequals to some recent movies. It never seems like the original is just enough for Hollywood. In 2009, we expect to see the movie sequals for Night at the Museum and Transformers.

Night at the Museum 2: Escape from the Smithsonian, will include characters from the original movie as well as new ones. Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Owen Wilson and Dick Van Dyke will be returning to the cast. Night at the Museum 2 will come to theaters on Memorial Day Weekend on May 22, 2009. This will be the first film to ever be shot at the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C.

20th Century Fox released this summary of the movie:

The centerpiece of the film will be bringing to life the Smithsonian Institution, which houses the world’s largest museum complex with more than 136 million items in its collections, ranging from the plane Amelia Earhart flew on her nonstop solo flight across the Atlantic and Al Capone’s rap sheet and mug shot to Dorothy’s ruby red slippers and Archie Bunker’s lounge chair.

Another sequel, Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen directed by Michael Bay, will likely be another box office success when it comes out on June 26, 2009. There have not been many details released about this film yet, but a little more information visit MTV Movies Blog’s Interview with Megan Fox where she claims “It’s just going to be a badass movie.”
