Fandango, the nation’s leading movie destination, has reported the outstanding anticipation for The Dark Knight. Many cities across the U.S. have already sold out of the July 17th midnight showing of the movie. Many movie theaters are adding additional showing times in the early hours of the morning such as 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.
Fandango reports:
“‘The Dark Knight’ may be responsible for a lot of bleary eyes at work next Friday morning,” says Rick Butler, Chief Operating Officer for Fandango. “We’re seeing a record number of late-night showtimes selling out in advance, while theaters are adding new performances every day.”
More than 1,500 late-night showtimes of the movie have been scheduled for the film’s pre-opening on Thursday night (Friday morning), July 17-18, at http://www/fandango.com/thedarkknight. An online survey of more than 3,000 “The Dark Knight” fans on Fandango.com last week resulted in the following information on the late-night surge:
– 37% of respondents plan to see the film at least once during one of the late night performances on Thursday night.
– 38% say that they intend to take off a few hours or the entire day from work on Friday as a result of seeing the movie the night before.
– 60% of these moviegoers are male.
– 71% are under the age of 35.
– 39% plan to see the film in IMAX(R).
– 92% expect that the Academy will recognize Heath Ledger’s performance as The Joker with a posthumous Oscar(R) nomination next year.
For Fandango, “The Dark Knight” is poised to be the year’s top advance ticket-seller in wide release, outpacing “Iron Man,” “Indiana Jones 4″ and “Sex and the City” at the same point in those films’ sales cycles.
The Dark Knight will likely be one of the highest grossing films of the summer. If you don’t act soon, I wish you good luck at finding tickets if your looking to go on the first day.
Here’s a link to a bootlegged video of the first six minutes of the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight. Don’t watch this clip if you want anything given away until you see it in theaters. The movie will begin showing Friday, July 17th.
Personally, I have not watched the video. I am anxious to watch it all for the first time in theaters.
The follow-up to the successful 2005 film, Batman Begins, is making its way to theaters on July 18th. The Dark Knight stars Christian Bale once again as Batman and the late Heath Ledger as the Joker. The plot focuses on Batman’s war against crime, particularly against the rising criminal mastermind of the Joker.
Filming for this movie began in April of 2007. While shooting in Chicago, the production team referred to the movie as ‘Rory’s First Kiss’ to lessen the visibility of production. Although this did not work because local Chicago media quickly figured out the truth behind the movie.
Warner Bros. has produced af great amount of advertising for this movie. From a variety of websites to actually building two rollercoasters called ‘The Dark Knight’ at two Six Flags theme parks, word of this movie has spread.
Another factor that led to greater publicity of this film was the unfortunate death of Heath Ledger. This is the last film that he will ever star in. The Dark Knight is a film that will celebrate and a be a tribute to the acting and life of Heath Ledger.
Along with the movie’s release in theaters on July 18th, it will also be shown in brilliance at IMAX theaters. Early reviews have already been very positive. Larry Carroll, a writer for Viacom, called it “the best Batman movie ever made.”
